One of the major challenges in the field of medical implants is to prevent bacterial infections during their placement. In collaboration with the INSERM U1121 Unit, researchers from the PECMAT team have developed an antibacterial coating based on self-assembled peptides. This coating is obtained thanks to the action of an enzyme, immobilized on the surface of the material, which induces the self-assembly of a tripeptide, i.e. composed of three amino acids. The self-assembly of the peptide gives a bactericidal effect superior to the peptide in solution. Find out how to obtain such a coating in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (open access article) https://doi.org/10.3389/fbioe.2020.00938.
